3 500 contemporary figurative paintings
“In our age, art has a right to pure madness. Assuming a defensive position against the prevailing artistic atmosphere, I made my personal aesthetic choices and embraced contemporary painting with an anthropocentric slant.”
With his bold statement, Greek lawyer and passionate collector Vlassis Frissiras explains how he became the proud owner of over 3 500 contemporary paintings of the human figure. “Anything else leaves me indifferent,” he told Athens News, explaining the emotional nature of his connection to his paintings, adding: “I decided right away that I wanted the paintings to be anthropocentric. That’s my character—it is monomaniacal and very focused.”
The Frissiras Museum includes, of course, a number of Greek artists, such as Yannis Moralis and Diamantis Diamantopoulos, as well as other established names like David Hockney and Frank Auerbach.
