Alexander Ramselaar Collection
A townhouse of young talent from Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and around the world
Rotterdam collector Alexander Ramselaar discovered his first artwork in a gallery on the way to work. He was immediately transfixed. After a longer period of collecting modern design, the real estate specialist, who now advises arts and cultural institutions, began to shift his focus toward contemporary art. In his unique 1920s penthouse, the hospitable collector presents art in the dining room and bedroom, in the stairwell, and even in the bathroom.
Ramselaar, an avid traveler, first collected work from the Rotterdam art scene and now does so internationally: Diango Hernandez, Rossella Biscotti, Giorgio Andreotta Calò, Pieter Hugo, Guy Tillim, James Beckett, or Michael Bauer are just some of the artists in his collection. Moreover, after becoming frustrated by the massive cuts in the Dutch cultural budget, Ramselaar and a few other collectors established the foundation C.o.C.A. (Collectors of Contemporary Art) to support young artists.
