AMC Collezione Coppola – Vicenza

A Curious Collector Acquiring Art to Broaden his Understanding of the World

Founded in 2008, the AMC Collezione Coppola consists of the private collection of Antonio Coppola, the founder of Italian medical supply firm Biomax. Coppola’s significant holdings of works by artists such as Nathalie Djurberg, David Schnell, Nicola Samorì, Marcel Dzama, Neo Rauch, Nina Canell, Ruprecht von Kaufmann, Manuele Cerutti, and Uri Aran are representative of the collector’s on-going effort to better understand, interpret, and even simply sense the world around him. Figurative painting and installations play the principal roles here. However, video has also made its way into the collection. Coppola credits this addition and others to continual encounters with artists and fellow collectors, which allow his own tastes to grow. He has taken his in-depth support of the artists who make up the AMC collection even further with his publication Solo, which is published once or twice annually and showcases the work of one artist in his collection each issue.

Alexander Forbes is a New York based art writer and critic, currently serving as Artsy’s Deputy Editor. Prior to relocating to New York, Alexander was based in Berlin as the European Editor for artnet and German Bureau Chief for Louise Blouin Media.
