An enthusiasm for art runs in the family, now in its eighth generation: for the past twenty-five years Javier Lumbreras has devoted himself to his passion for collecting. Together with his wife Lorena Pérez-Jácome, the Spanish Investor founded the Adrastus Collection in 2000. Both are mainly interested in the diversity of twentieth-century artistic creation: “We are trying to acknowledge the works that are produced in certain cultural margins, pieces that circulate on the peripheries of capitalism and of Western hegemonies.” Walid Raad and Minerva Cuevas are two of the couple’s favorite artists. The collection, which thus far includes about 600 works by artists from thirty-five countries, has a new home since fall 2016: a former Jesuit boarding school and connected church in Arévalo is gradually being transformed into a 14 000-square-meter museum.
