Collecting art is much more than assembling objects—it is a process shaped by personal preferences, strategic considerations, and a deep connection to art. But how does one become an art collector? What makes a collection unique? How does its identity emerge, and what criteria guide the selection of artists?

The evening will begin with a screening about the Anne & Wolfgang Titze Collection directed by film maker Anne de Boismilon-Titze.

Following the screening, Dirk Boll (Deputy Chairman, 20th & 21st Century Art, Christie’s) will moderate a panel discussion featuring Wolfgang Titze, Carolin Scharpff-Striebich (Head of the Scharpff Collection), and Corinna Thierolf (Chairwoman of the DASMAXIMUM Foundation). Together, they will explore the ways in which private collections can be made accessible to the public. (The discussion will be held in German.)

Anne und Wolfgang Titze.
Anne und Wolfgang Titze.

Over the past decades, Anne and Wolfgang Titze have built a significant art collection, with a strong focus on minimalist, conceptual, and feminist art. Their collection includes internationally renowned artists such as Donald Judd, Agnes Martin, Yayoi Kusama, Olafur Eliasson, Anselm Kiefer, Georg Baselitz, Antony Gormley & Thomas Schütte. Anne and Wolfgang Titze are among the ARTnews Top 200 Collectors. Their passion for collecting began in the early 1990s and was fueled by shared experiences and curiosity. Their collection has been exhibited at venues such as the Belvedere in Vienna, reflecting their commitment to making art accessible to the public. One of the guiding principles of their collection is that both Anne and Wolfgang Titze must agree before a work is acquired. This collaborative approach underscores the personal character and passion that define their collection.Today, it is the collector couple's wish that their collection will continue to shine beyond their time - through the "Anne & Wolfgang Titze Foundation" as a living testimony to their shared vision and inspiring complicity.

For the French-born Anne de Boismilon-Titze, the personal and emotional significance of the artworks plays a central role in her perspective. She has deeply engaged in the question of artist selection, focusing on women artists and the cultural and social value of collections.Fascinated by images, she is a film maker by profession, associated for many years with an American broadcast, she has received multiple news media industry accolades for her coverage on political crises, social issues and cultural events. She has produced and directed the documentary BEFORE & AFTER about her own art collection.
